Manufacturing facilities around the world are increasing research and development of industrial robots to increase productivity and maintain competitiveness. Industrial robots are used in factories and warehouses for material handling and heavy manufacturing operations such as welding, cutting, and assembly. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) studies warn that most robot accidents occur during non-routine operating conditions, such as optics lab testing, setup, or adjustment.

The Robotic Industries Association (RIA) reported that the world market for industrial robots is driven primarily by demand from motor vehicle manufacturing, followed by the research and development industry. The major foreign-owned industrial robot producers with US factories are from Japan (Fanuc, Kawasaki, Yaskawa-Motoman), Germany (Kuka), and Switzerland (ABB and Staubli). US lab manufacturers that design and produce industrial robots include Adept Technology, Genmark Automation, Rethink Robotics, and SAGE Automation. In addition to automotive robots, these companies produce robots for the electronics, medical, and logistics industries.

Nanotechnology

Nanotechnology is helping to revolutionize many technology and industry sectors, including materials science, renewable energy, biomedical technology, 3D printing and robotics manufacturing. At its most basic, nanotech relies on tailoring the structure of materials at an atomic or molecular scale, to achieve specific properties. Using nanotechnology, new materials can be fabricated that are stronger, lighter, and better electrical conductors, among other properties.

When particle sizes of solid matter in the visible scale are compared to what can be seen in a regular optical microscope, there is little difference in the properties of the particles. But when particles are created with dimensions of about 1?100 nanometers, the materials? properties change significantly from those at larger scales. This is the size scale where quantum effects rule behavior and physical properties. Thus, when particle size is made to be nanoscale, properties such as melting point, fluorescence, electrical conductivity, magnetic permeability, and chemical reactivity change as a function of the size of the particle.

Technical programs are a low-cost alternative to attending a regular four-year university, and you can earn good money as a highly-skilled, technical specialist. If you remain true to your career interests, via Tidewater Community College communication studies, your overall job earnings will increase as you gain experience. If you're currently employed, you can take online technical education classes in your free time to advance your career. Financial Aid Information

Government scholarships and Pell grant applications, combined with academic scholarships, only account for a third of total college aid. Student loans, work-study earnings, and personal savings make up the remaining two-thirds. The official FAFSA website is www.fafsa.ed.gov and is free to use. Many parents make mistakes when filling out the FAFSA information, including leaving some fields blank, spelling names wrong, and not entering social security numbers completely. Academic scholarships are highly competitive, and are usually awarded either by the admissions office, or individual academic departments.

Loan programs generally issue loans based on the credit history of the applicant and any co-signer. This is in contrast to federal loan programs that focus on need-based criteria. Financial aid may be administered via the Department of Education or through your school's financial aid office. High school grades are the most important factor in gaining admission to the college of your choice, along with letters of recommendation. According to Randolph-Macon College art program, an ideal academic record consists of a high GPA in courses of progressive difficulty. The College Board Scholarship Search service advertises several thousand sources for possible scholarship funds. While local churches or temples may not have the funding to provide scholarships, the organization's headquarters may have student scholarships available.

Business & Engineering Jobs

As the economy improves, many private firms are beginning to hire more technical personnel. Whether you have experience in technical services, or are a new graduate, this may be the right time to advance your career. The Fundamentals of Engineering exam should be taken immediately after earning a bachelors degree from an ABET-accredited program. Engineers who pass this exam are called engineers in training (EIT), or engineer interns. After meeting work experience requirements, engineer interns can attempt a second certifying exam, called the Principles and Practice of Engineering Exam.
